Jun Yao was awarded the 14th WuXi AppTec Life Science and Chemistry Awards
Jun Yao was awarded the 14th WuXi AppTec Life Science and Chemistry Awards On December 19 th , 2020, Dr. Jun Yao, a PI of Center for Life Sciences and Tsinghua University School of Life Sciences, was awarded the 14th WuXi AppTec Life Science and Chemistry Awards. Dr. Jun Yao’s group has been investigating the pathogenesis of neuropsychiatric disorder. Dr. Yao has described a new strategy for investigating the origins of bipolar disorder (BD) as the result of deficits in multiple genes, and elucidated that the Syt7 molecular pathway is key for the pathogenesis and inheritability of BD. Recently, Dr. Yao’s group has discovered one important mechanism underlying the Syt7 deficit-induced manic mood. In 2019, Dr. Yao was shortlisted for the N

Dr. Li Yulong receives NIH BRAIN Initiative grant to develop new sensors for probing neuronal activity Neurotransmitters and neuromodulators are of vital importance in diverse physiological conditions of the brain. However, due to the limited performance of existing detection methods, the temporal/spatial dynamics of neurotransmission and neuromodulation in their neuronal microcircuits remains largely elusive. Dr. Yulong Li, a principal investigator of Center for Life Sciences (CLS), School of Life Science at Peking University together with his collaborators Drs. Andrew Hires and Zhang Li at University of South California, receives a three-year grant from the Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative®, a research initiative generously

Magnesium supplement helps reduce fear memory and anxiety
Magnesium supplement helps reduce fear memory and anxiety Neuroscientists at Tsinghua University in Beijing show that increasing brain magnesium with a new compound not only can enhance learning abilities and memory, but also could help in treating anxiety disorders such as phobias and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Fear is essential for survival. However, having excessive-uncontrollable fear or experiencing strong fearful events can lead to anxiety disorders such as phobias and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Recent studies from this group demonstrated that increasing brain magnesium with a new magnesium compound (MagteinTM) enhances the learning and memory abilities in rats. Therefore, increase in magnesium intake might be beneficial for maintaining or even en
