Topic: Epigenetic Regulation in Early Embryo
Development and Somatic Cell Reprogramming
Speaker: Shaorong Gao, Ph.D.
School of Life Sciences and Technology
Somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) and the induction of pluripotency by defined factors are two most efficient methods used for reprogramming of terminally differentiated somatic cells into pluripotent or even totipotent state. Previously, the full pluripotency of the so-called induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) has been demonstrated for the first time by our lab as viable mice could be generated autonomously from iPS cells through tetraploid blastocyst complementation. However, the molecular mechanism underlying these two reprogramming approaches remains elusive. In this seminar, I will introduce the advances that we achieved recently in understanding the molecular mechanism of both SCNT- and defined transcription factors mediated somatic cell reprogramming.
